Privacy Policy
What the CLAYBY app does with your information. It is a climbing game for every age, so the answer is: as little as possible.
CLAYBY ("the app") is a climbing game for iPhone published by Studio Procrast ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the app handles, why, and what choices you have.
We have written it to be specific rather than generic: everything below describes what CLAYBY actually does, not what an app of this type might do.
Summary
CLAYBY has no accounts, no sign-in, no cloud storage and no analytics. We do not collect, store or transmit any personal information about you to our own servers — we do not operate any servers. Your settings and scores stay on your device.
The game is free because it shows ads, supplied by Google AdMob, and advertising involves your device sharing some information with Google. CLAYBY is for players of every age, so we treat every player as if they might be a child: ads are never personalised, the app never asks to track you, and every ad is suitable for all ages. This is described in full below.
1. Information stored on your device
The app saves a few small things locally so it can remember them between launches:
| What | Stored value |
|---|---|
| Sound effects, and the individual landing, stomp and death sounds | On or off |
| Music | On or off |
| Vibration | On or off |
| Tilt steering | On or off |
| Your best scores | Your top five, as numbers only |
| Runs since the last full-screen ad | A number, so those ads appear no more than once every five runs |
| An unfinished run | The score of a run the app closed on, so it can be added to your scores next time |
These are stored using the operating system's standard preferences storage (UserDefaults on iOS). They stay on your device, are not transmitted anywhere, are not readable by us, and are deleted when you uninstall the app. Like the data of any app, they may be included in your device's own backup under your Apple account.
In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, Google's consent tool may also store your ad consent choices on your device (see section 5).
Tilt steering. If you switch it on, the app reads your device's motion sensor while you play to move your character. That reading is used on the spot and is never stored or sent anywhere.
2. Advertising
CLAYBY shows two kinds of ads, supplied by Google AdMob: an optional video you can choose to watch after a run ends to continue that run, and a full-screen ad between runs, no more than once every five runs.
Every ad is child-safe. Because CLAYBY is for every age and does not ask how old you are, every ad request is marked both as directed at children and as coming from someone under the age of consent. As a result, for every player:
- Google does not show personalised ads or ads based on your activity in other apps (remarketing);
- Apple's Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) is never used, and the app never asks for permission to track you;
- ads are limited to content rated suitable for all ages.
To show and measure ads, Google may still receive and process:
- Device identifiers limited to this app or developer — never the IDFA;
- Your IP address, and the approximate (city or region level) location derived from it;
- Device and app information — device model, operating system version, app version, language and country;
- Ad interaction data — that an ad was shown, viewed or tapped;
- Diagnostic data, such as crash logs and performance information from Google's advertising software.
This information is collected by Google, not by us. We never see it in an identifiable form; we can only see aggregate figures such as total impressions and revenue, which do not identify individual players.
Google uses this data to serve ads, to limit how often you see the same ad, and to detect invalid traffic and fraud. How Google handles it is governed by Google's own policies:
- Google Privacy Policy
- How Google uses information from partner sites and apps
- Google Advertising policies
The app also supports Apple's SKAdNetwork, which lets advertisers learn that an ad led to an app being installed without identifying you or your device.
3. Fonts
CLAYBY uses Apple's own system typeface. Nothing is downloaded to display text, so no request is made to Google Fonts or any other font service.
4. What the app does not do
To be explicit, CLAYBY does not:
- Ask for or access your location, camera, microphone, photos, contacts, calendar, health data or files;
- Require or offer an account, or ask for your name, age, email address or any other personal detail;
- Ask for permission to track you, or use Apple's advertising identifier;
- Contain analytics, crash reporting or attribution SDKs of our own;
- Offer in-app purchases;
- Sell or share personal information, including as those terms are defined under United States state privacy laws.
5. Your choices
Ad consent (EEA, UK and Switzerland). In these regions, Google's consent tool may ask for your choices the first time you open CLAYBY. Whatever you choose, ads in CLAYBY are never personalised. Where the tool applies, you can change or withdraw your choice at any time from Settings → Privacy choices inside the app; that row appears only where it is needed.
Tracking. There is nothing to switch off: CLAYBY never asks to track you across other companies' apps and websites.
Sound, music and vibration. All can be turned off in the app's settings.
All local data. Uninstalling the app removes everything it has saved. There is nothing stored elsewhere for us to delete.
6. Legal basis (EEA, UK and Switzerland)
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies:
- Storing your settings and scores is necessary to provide the game you requested (Article 6(1)(b) — performance of a contract);
- Showing non-personalised advertising relies on our legitimate interest in funding a free game (Article 6(1)(f));
- Where the law requires consent for storing or reading information on your device for advertising, that consent is collected by Google's consent tool and can be withdrawn at any time, as described in section 5 (Article 6(1)(a)).
For processing carried out by Google as a controller in its own right, Google determines the legal basis; see Google's privacy policy linked above.
You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing of your personal data, the right to data portability, and the right to complain to your local supervisory authority. In the Netherlands that is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens. Because we hold no personal data ourselves, requests concerning advertising data should be directed to Google; we will help where we can.
7. Children
CLAYBY is made for players of all ages, including children. We do not ask for anyone's age and do not collect personal information from anyone, at any age. Every player is treated as a child: all ads are marked as directed at children, as the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and Google's policies require, and as coming from someone under the age of digital consent, as European law requires. So for everyone there are no personalised ads, no use of the advertising identifier, no tracking question, and only ads suitable for all ages.
Parents and guardians with questions, or who want help, can contact us at any time.
8. Data retention and security
We hold no personal data, so there is nothing for us to retain or breach. Data held by Google is retained according to Google's own retention schedules and is sent to Google encrypted. Information stored on your device persists until you delete the app.
9. International transfers
Google may process advertising data on servers outside your country, including in the United States, using transfer mechanisms such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. See Google's privacy policy for details.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the "Last updated" date above and post the revised version at the same address. Material changes affecting how data is used will be highlighted in the app or in the App Store release notes.
