Privacy Policy
What the Dicely app does with your information. It is a dice roller, so the answer is: almost nothing.
Dicely ("the app"), listed on the App Store as Dicely - Dice Roller, is published by Studio Procrast ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the app handles, why, and what choices you have.
We have written it to be specific rather than generic: everything below describes what Dicely actually does, not what an app of this type might do.
Summary
Dicely is a dice roller. It has no accounts, no sign-in, no cloud storage and no analytics. We do not collect, store or transmit any personal information about you to our own servers — we do not operate any servers.
The app does show advertising, supplied by Google AdMob, and advertising inherently involves your device sharing some information with Google. That is the only meaningful data flow in the app, and it is described in full below.
1. Information stored on your device
The app saves your preferences locally so it can remember them between launches:
| Setting | Stored value |
|---|---|
| Number of dice | 1–12 |
| Roll duration | A number between 0.55 and 1.75 |
| Sound | On or off |
| Vibration | On or off |
| Shake to roll | On or off |
| Skip locking instruction | On or off |
| Appearance | System, Light or Dark |
| Language | Automatic, Dutch, English or Chinese |
These are stored using the operating system's standard preferences storage (NSUserDefaults on iOS). They stay on your device, are not transmitted anywhere, are not readable by us, and are deleted when you uninstall the app.
Dice results are not stored at all. There is no roll history.
2. Information collected by advertising
Dicely displays a banner advertisement using Google AdMob. To select and measure ads, Google may receive and process:
- Device identifiers, including Apple's Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) only if you granted the tracking permission described in section 5, and Google's own advertising identifiers;
- Your IP address, and the approximate (city or region level) location derived from it;
- Device and app information — device model, operating system version, app version, language and country;
- Ad interaction data — that an ad was shown, viewed or tapped.
This information is collected by Google, not by us. We never see it in an identifiable form; we can only see aggregate performance figures such as total impressions and revenue, which do not identify individual users.
Google uses this data to serve ads, to limit how often you see the same ad, to detect invalid traffic and fraud, and — depending on your consent and settings — to personalise the ads you see.
How Google handles this data is governed by Google's own policies:
- Google Privacy Policy
- How Google uses information from partner sites and apps
- Google Advertising policies
3. Fonts
The Oswald typeface used for the Dicely wordmark is included in the app itself. It is not downloaded, so no request is made to Google Fonts or to any other font service, and no data leaves your device to display it.
4. What the app does not do
To be explicit, Dicely does not:
- Ask for or access your location, camera, microphone, photos, contacts, calendar, health data or files;
- Require or offer an account, and does not ask for your name, email address or any other personal detail;
- Contain analytics, crash reporting or attribution SDKs;
- Store or transmit your dice results;
- Sell or share personal information for money, and does not sell personal information as that term is defined under United States state privacy laws.
5. Your choices
Ad consent (EEA, UK and Switzerland). The first time you open Dicely in one of these regions, a form asks whether you accept personalised advertising. Your answer is recorded and applied to every ad request. You can change it at any time from Settings → Privacy settings inside the app; that row appears only if you were asked in the first place.
Tracking permission (iOS). Dicely asks, once, whether it may track you across other companies' apps and websites. This controls access to Apple's Identifier for Advertisers. If you decline, the identifier is withheld and ads are selected without it. The app is otherwise identical either way — nothing is withheld or degraded if you say no.
Apple only ever shows that prompt once per installation. To change your answer later, use Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking on your device. You can also disable personalised advertising system-wide under Settings → Privacy & Security → Apple Advertising.
Turning personalised ads off does not remove ads — it means they are selected without a profile, and are typically less relevant.
Sound and vibration. Both can be turned off in the app's settings.
All local data. Uninstalling the app removes every setting it has saved. There is nothing stored elsewhere for us to delete.
6. Legal basis (EEA, UK and Switzerland)
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies:
- Storing your app preferences is necessary to provide the app you requested (Article 6(1)(b) — performance of a contract);
- Showing non-personalised advertising relies on our legitimate interest in funding a free app (Article 6(1)(f));
- Storing or reading information on your device for advertising, and showing personalised advertising, rely on your consent (Article 6(1)(a)), collected through the form described in section 5 and withdrawable at any time from Settings → Privacy settings.
For processing carried out by Google as a controller in its own right, Google determines the legal basis; see Google's privacy policy linked above.
You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing of your personal data, the right to data portability, and the right to complain to your local supervisory authority. In the Netherlands that is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens. Because we hold no personal data ourselves, requests concerning advertising data should be directed to Google; we will help where we can.
7. Children
Dicely is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 where local law sets that threshold). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, contact us and we will act on it.
8. Data retention and security
We hold no personal data, so there is nothing for us to retain or breach. Data held by Google is retained according to Google's own retention schedules. Preferences stored on your device persist until you delete the app.
9. International transfers
Google may process advertising data on servers outside your country, including in the United States, using transfer mechanisms such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. See Google's privacy policy for details.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the "Last updated" date above and post the revised version at the same address. Material changes affecting how data is used will be highlighted in the app or in the App Store release notes.
